Concord Park Has Three Front Doors, and Northshore Drive Just Gave You Two More Reasons to Know Them

Pull up Concord Park on a map and you'll see one green blob wrapped around a bend of Fort Loudoun Lake. Drive there with a paddleboard on your roof and a mental image of "the park entrance," and there's a real chance you end up in the wrong parking lot, a mile or more from the water you were aiming for. Concord Park isn't a park with one gate. It's three separate destinations that happen to share a name and a stretch of South Northshore Drive, and this summer the road between them got two new reasons to learn the difference.

The Park Splits Into Three Before You Even See the Lake

Knox County's own listings for Concord Park don't point to a single address. They point to three.

The county's own park page lists Concord Park East on Northshore Drive with the ballfields, skatepark, and marina. A separate Concord Park West page covers an entirely different entrance more than a mile down the road, built around the trail network. The Cove is its own listing again, closer to 11808. If you're heading out for one specific activity, that address matters more than the park's name does.

The Trail Mileage Depends on Which Page You Trust

Here's where it gets genuinely confusing, even for people who've lived off Northshore for years. Knox County's own Concord Park West page states the trail system runs 13.7 miles of singletrack plus almost two miles of paved greenway. A few clicks away, on the visitor-facing county listing for the same park, the trail system is described as 9.4 miles of natural trail, with two short paved loops, The Point at a quarter mile and The Cove at three-quarters of a mile.

Neither page is wrong exactly. Trail systems like this one get built, rerouted, and re-measured in phases, and the group that actually maintains most of the singletrack, the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club, keeps a working map that's more current than whatever the county published last. If you're planning a ride based on total mileage rather than just heading out for an afternoon, check AMBC's map before you check either county page. The numbers won't always agree, and the club's version is the one that reflects what's rideable right now.

The Dog Park Doubles as a Small Beach

The PetSafe Concord Dog Park sits on the east side, tucked behind the tennis courts near the mountain bike trailhead, not out at The Cove where the human swimmers go. It's close to four acres, with separate off-leash sections for large and small dogs, a dog shower, water fountains for both pets and people, and a dock that gives dogs their own direct access to the lake. That's worth knowing before you drive out expecting one shared swim spot for the whole family. The dog park has its own water access built specifically for it, on the opposite side of the park from where the human swim beach sits.

The Marina Just Got Bigger, and the Restaurant Is Still Booked Solid on Weekends

Sun Life Concord Marina, on the east side near the park's main entrance, recently expanded its wet slip capacity, with leasing now open on the new slips. The marina describes itself as the largest full-service marina on Fort Loudoun Lake, with more than 500 wet slips, pontoon rentals, a ship's store, and a fuel dock. Harbormaster James Bisch has run the place for 18 years, and the marina's own site notes he "enjoys being a part of such a happy atmosphere," watching families come together for a day on the water.

Lakeside Tavern sits right on the marina, and its Sunset Room, which seats up to 55, looks out over the water toward what the restaurant's own site calls the historic community of Concord, the town the TVA lake covers. The restaurant runs Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m. If you're planning a marina evening around dinner, know that this is the one stop on the east side where you'll want a reservation, especially on a Friday with a lake sunset on the schedule.

Two New Stops Before You Even Reach the Gates

If you're driving out from town, Northshore Drive picked up a new destination in July, and it comes before you reach any of the park's three entrances. Dap's Pizza & Provisions opened July 2, 2026 at 9411 S. Northshore Drive, more than a thousand address numbers closer to town than the park's east entrance. It's an independently owned spot built around an imported Italian oven, with a short cocktail list and weekend brunch, open most evenings from 4 to 9 p.m. and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It's closed on Tuesdays. The name comes from the idea of a dap, the handshake between two people who are glad to see each other, and the owners have said the goal is "bringing folks together one pie and one conversation at a time."

A few miles over on Kingston Pike, West Knoxville's other main corridor, an Amsterdam-style cafe called Bestia Blooms is opening a second location at 11124 Kingston Pike, inside the former Shrimp Dock building, in partnership with Forte Fitness. The announcement went out July 6, 2026. It isn't on Northshore Drive, but it's the same summer pattern: both of West Knoxville's main arteries are filling in with independent, locally owned spots at the same time the park at the end of one of those roads keeps getting more reasons to visit.

Planning an Afternoon Around Three Separate Parks

Once you know the park is really three places, planning gets easier rather than harder. A few pairings that actually work with the geography instead of against it:

• Swim day with the dog: the PetSafe Concord Dog Park's dock, the water access built specifically for dogs, rather than assuming the human swim beach at The Cove is the shared option.
• Trail ride: head straight for the 11719 S. Northshore Drive entrance, and check AMBC's current trail map before you go if you're routing a specific distance.
• Family water day: The Cove at 11808 S. Northshore Drive for the beach, sand volleyball, and on-site kayak and paddleboard rentals.
• Evening on the water: the marina side, east entrance, with a reservation at Lakeside Tavern if you want the Sunset Room.
• Pizza on the way out or the way home: Dap's, since it sits closer to town than any of the park's three gates.

None of this requires an app or a park map you'll lose in the glovebox. It just requires knowing that "Concord Park" was never one destination to begin with, and that the address you type into your phone determines which version of the park you actually get.
