The line for H&H Bagels wrapped around the building on opening day. People filmed it. The videos made their way through local social media the way lines for cronuts and cult donuts always do, and for a few weeks that stretch of Parkside Drive was the most talked-about address in West Knoxville. A few doors down, a much quieter opening happened in June with less foot traffic and no viral video: Nordstrom Rack opened its doors on June 25, the first Nordstrom Rack Knoxville has ever had.
That gap between attention and consequence is the story of Turkey Creek's last twelve months. The businesses that made noise mostly gave West Knoxville a shorter drive to something it already had access to somewhere else. The businesses that opened quietly gave the area something it genuinely didn't have before.
Whataburger's arrival at 310 Wild Geese Road got its own countdown. The Texas chain opened its second Knoxville location there on November 17, replacing a Steak 'n Shake that had sat closed since 2024. It was Knoxville's second Whataburger, following the location near the University of Tennessee that opened a few months earlier, and it drew the kind of first-day crowd you'd expect from a chain that had spent years teasing East Tennessee before finally showing up.
Flying Biscuit Cafe opened at 11683 Parkside Drive with its all-day breakfast menu, the Atlanta-born concept that's expanded to more than 30 locations across the South since 1993. H&H Bagels landed at 11390 Parkside Drive, bringing a New York name with a following that made the opening feel like an event. Komma Tea, which already operates a location inside West Town Mall, is expanding to a second spot at 11361 Parkside Drive, in the same strip as Condado Tacos and Carhartt. Nothing Bundt Cakes has also confirmed a second Knoxville location is coming to Turkey Creek, announced on the shopping center's Facebook page with no address or date attached yet.
Every one of these is a real addition to the corridor and worth a Saturday drive. None of them changed what was available to someone living in West Knoxville. A bagel shop, a breakfast diner, a burger chain, a boba spot that already exists two miles away, a cake shop with an existing Knoxville storefront: these are conveniences moving closer, not new categories showing up for the first time.
Three other openings did something different. Before June 25, Knoxville had zero Nordstrom Rack locations. Tennessee had exactly four, in Chattanooga and elsewhere, plus a single full-line Nordstrom store somewhere in the state. Anyone in West Knoxville who wanted a Nordstrom Rack trip had to plan a drive out of the metro. The new 30,000-square-foot store at Pinnacle at Turkey Creek, tucked near Buffalo Wild Wings and Sono Bello, closed that gap entirely, with an opening day that included an 8 a.m. start, giveaways, and a $1,000 gift card sweepstakes.
Gabi Walsh, marketing manager for Pinnacle at Turkey Creek, said in the announcement that the new tenant's arrival "further enhances the exceptional mix of fashion, dining, and lifestyle offerings" the center is known for. That framing undersells what actually changed. Marshall's and Burlington already sat inside the same shopping center, so off-price retail wasn't new to Turkey Creek. What was new was access to Nordstrom-branded inventory at a discount without a trip to another state or a drive across Tennessee.
SITKA Gear did something similar for a much narrower audience. The outdoor and hunting gear brand opened its first Tennessee location at 11337 Parkside Drive, in the same strip as Altar'd State, White House Black Market, and Yankee Candle. Before that opening, anyone in West Knoxville shopping for SITKA's gear was ordering online or driving to another state. Now it's a Turkey Creek stop.
Drybar closed a third kind of gap. The blowout bar chain opened its first East Tennessee location at 11681 Parkside Drive in early 2026, with a second Knoxville location and a Chattanooga store planned to follow. There was no local version of this service anywhere in the region before Drybar arrived. It didn't replace a drive to Nashville the way Nordstrom Rack replaced a drive to an outlet mall. It replaced not having the option at all.
| Business | Address | Status | What made it different |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whataburger | 310 Wild Geese Rd | Opened Nov. 17, 2025 | Second Knoxville location, replaced a closed Steak 'n Shake |
| SITKA Gear | 11337 Parkside Dr | Opened summer 2025 | First Tennessee location |
| H&H Bagels | 11390 Parkside Dr | Open | Lines wrapped the building on opening day |
| Flying Biscuit Cafe | 11683 Parkside Dr | Open | All-day breakfast concept from Atlanta |
| Drybar | 11681 Parkside Dr | Opened early 2026 | First East Tennessee location |
| Nordstrom Rack | Pinnacle at Turkey Creek | Opened June 25, 2026 | First Nordstrom Rack in Knoxville |
| Komma Tea | 11361 Parkside Dr | No date announced | Second Knoxville location, already at West Town Mall |
| Nothing Bundt Cakes | Location TBA | No date announced | Second Knoxville location |
Two of these arrivals have been announced but are not yet open. Komma Tea's second location has an address, 11361 Parkside Drive, and no opening date has been shared. Nothing Bundt Cakes has been confirmed for Turkey Creek through the shopping center's Facebook page, and neither an address nor a date has been released so far. Anyone driving out to Parkside Drive expecting to find either one open should check ahead rather than assume the corridor has caught up to its own announcements.
Turkey Creek has been adding storefronts since developers bought the first 410 acres along I-40 in 1995, and the corridor now stretches three miles between the Lovell Road and Campbell Station Road exits, built into what's been called the largest single commercial development in the Knoxville metro. New openings there aren't news by themselves. What's worth tracking is which openings change an errand list and which ones just add another option to a category that was already covered.
This year, the category-changers were the quiet ones. If you needed a Saturday afternoon activity, the bagel line delivered. If you needed to stop driving to another city for off-price Nordstrom finds, or add a hunting-gear stop to a Tennessee shopping trip, or book a blowout without leaving the county, the June and early-2026 openings did the work that actually rearranges a weekend routine.
